Teversham’s Milestones Art Trail
Are you looking for something to do in the summer holidays? See if you can find these five milestones in Teversham parish. Which sports do they represent?

In 2014, the Teversham Community Led Public Art Project ‘Milestones’ was launched.
Art consultant, Alison Turnbull Associates and Charlotte Howarth of Making Marks were commissioned by Teversham Parish Council to advise on and carve the five milestones to be located in and around Teversham village and Foxgloves. Each milestone is hand carved with words and images based on work created by the local community.
Celebrating the lives of people living in the parish and providing a legacy for the future, the milestones reflect elements of the parish’s identity and help to promote sport while, at the same time, provide a unifying, visual component between the different areas of the parish.
Given the agricultural setting of the parish, the Parish Council was also keen to use natural materials, such as stone, and involve with community as much as possible.
Workshops were held where residents produced artwork, drawings and poetry. Children from Teversham CE Primary School and Bewick Bridge Community Primary School were also involved. An exhibition was held and residents helped to choose which of the five milestones were carved and where they were installed.
The project was funded as a consequence of the Redwings housing development, Newmarket Road, through section 106 money specifically earmarked for public art.
